Overcoming gain-bandwidth product constraint in slow light Raman amplification with the use of light-stopping schemes

چکیده
We show that a light-stopping system with Raman amplification can overcome the gain-bandwidth constraint of slow light Raman amplification systems. The gain scales linearly with the time the pulse spends in the stopped state and is thus much larger than the gain experienced in a slow light system of the same length and operating bandwidth. We present a theoretical analysis of Raman amplification in such a light-stopping system and verify the results using numerical simulations. © 2009 American Institute of Physics. Observation of Raman Gain in Reduced Length of Bismuth Erbium Doped Fiber
Raman amplification of a 49 cm Bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) as a nonlinear gainmedium based erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is reported in new and compactdesign in near infrared spectral regions. The bismuth glass host provides theopportunity to be doped heavily with erbium ions to allow a compact optical gain fiberamplifier design by using reduced fiber length and the 1480...
متن کاملInvestigation of Scalar Modulation Instability in the Presence of Raman Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fibers
In this paper, by including Raman scattering in the coupled-mode equations, the scalar modulation instability in photonic crystal fibers is investigated. The evolution of the pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves along the fiber as well as the conversion efficiency for two cases, with and without Raman effect, are studied. The effect of anti-Stokes seed and the pump depletion on the evolution of S...
متن کاملTunable all optical delay via slow and fast light propagation in a Raman assisted fiber optical parametric amplifier: a route to all optical buffering.
We propose and demonstrate the use of narrow band optical parametric amplification for tunable slow and fast light propagation in optical fibers. The parametric gain is coupled to the Raman process which changes the gain value moderately but modifies the gain spectral shape. Consequently, the delay is enhanced at short wavelengths while it is moderated at long wavelengths. The maximum delay and...
متن کاملSimultaneous slow and fast light effects using probe gain and pump depletion via Raman gain in atomic vapor.
We demonstrate experimentally slow and fast light effects achieved simultaneously using Raman gain and pump depletion in an atomic vapor. Heterodyne phase measurements show opposite dispersion characteristics at the pump and probe frequencies. Optical pulse propagations in the vapor medium confirm the slow and fast light effects due to these dispersions. We discuss applications of this techniqu...
متن کاملSlow Light amplification in a non-inverted gain medium
– We investigate the propagation of a coherent probe light pulse through a threelevel atomic medium (in the Λ–configuration) in the presence of a pump laser under the conditions for gain without inversion. When the carrier frequency of the probe pulse and the pump laser are in a Raman configuration, we show that it is possible to amplify a slow propagating pulse. We also analyze the regime in w...
